Electrical Stimulation Treatments
Is Electrical Stimulation treatment right for you?
Electrical Stimulation (e-stim) uses controlled electrical impulses to stimulate muscles and nerves. It can reduce pain, improve circulation, and facilitate muscle re-education. Contraindications include pacemakers, pregnancy (abdomen/lumbar), cancer, or open wounds in the treatment area.
What is Electrical Stimulation treatment?
Adhesive electrodes are applied to the skin over the affected area. Gentle currents are delivered through a handheld unit or clinical machine for about 10–20 minutes. Patients may feel a tingling or rhythmic pulsing sensation—comfortable and not painful.
What conditions does Electrical Stimulation treatment address?
E-stim is often used for:
- Sciatica and nerve-related pain (e.g., cervical radiculopathy)
- Muscle re-education post-injury (e.g., ACL or rotator cuff rehab)
- Acute injuries like sprains or strains to reduce swelling
Chronic joint pain or tendonitis
It’s a great adjunct to help control pain and jumpstart healing between manual treatments.
